"Dr. Andrew Turnbull and the New Smyrna Colony of Florida", By Carita Doggett This hard-cover version of the original book written in 1919 tells the story of the Turnbull Settlement, Smyrnea, of over 250 years ago which marked the beginning of the community of New Smyrna Beach Florida, the third oldest settled community on the Florida peninsula. This dynamic account shares the story of the brave men and women who came with the promise of a new and prosperous life that could be carved out for themselves, only to find harsh conditions, brutal management, starvation and disappointment in the short lived British Colonial settlement of the late 1700's.
